Under a fast-track schedule, Graycor recently constructed a new 72,000-square-foot design center for Motorola, in Champaign, Ill. The new two-story research facility, designed by the Chicago office of Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum Inc. (HOK) and Champaign-based Henneman Raufeisen & Associates Inc., accommodates up to 250 software programmers in Motorola’s personal communications sector (PCS) business unit and features office space, conference rooms and areas, a fitness center and computer backbone vault with raised access and anti-static flooring. The design center, which relocated from Urbana to the University of Illinois’ technology research park, will be used as a software design center.
