Project Scope
Nicor Gas, a subsidiary of Southern Company Gas, awarded Graycor Industrial a project to perform underground work at Nicor Gas’ Hudson Gas Field in Hudson, Illinois, located in McLean County approximately 10 miles northeast of Bloomington.
The project—which is being performed as the first of three phases to prepare for a future compressor at the site—includes excavation, civil foundations, erection of a pre-engineered metal building, concrete masonry unit (CMU) work, above-ground and underground electrical work, plumbing, and finishes.
Graycor is self-performing the building erection, and subcontracted work includes earthwork, civil concrete, plumbing, electrical, CMU installation and hydro-excavation.
In October 2019, Graycor’s team completed a third-phase upgrade to Nicor Gas’ underground gas storage facility in Streator, Illinois, located approximately 40 miles north of Hudson. Work at Nicor Gas’ Ancona Gas Field included installing a total of 12,000 lineal feet of piping, of which 5,000 lineal feet required pigging and drying. Much of the piping work was completed utilizing Graycor’s fabrication facility in Portage, Indiana.
