Graycor Industrial Constructors is proud to move into its new, 12,000 square foot state-of-the-art fabrication shop in Portage, Indiana. The fabrication shop is part of Graycor’s new 44,000 square foot operations center. The facility has enabled Graycor to consolidate a fabrication shop with its yard operations previously located in Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. In addition to this larger and more advanced fabrication shop there is also office space, a laydown yard providing storage and staging capacity for large amounts of materials, and a tool shop which reduces waiting time for small tooling requirements.
The shop’s current function is pipe spool fabrication, skid mounted modules and module assembly which will allow Graycor to better serve its clients. A variety of equipment is available within the facility to handle the demands and requirements of Graycor’s customers. The new equipment includes ten and five ton overhead cranes, pipe movement systems, large capacity band saws and a variety of welding equipment. This facility provides a clean environment for employees as a result of a total shop exhaust ventilation system as well as localized fume extractors for welding processes. Currently, the shop is busy fabricating components for a recently awarded power project for NIPSCO’s Schahfer U14/15 FGD.
